Prognostic significance of morphologic parameters in renal cell carcinoma.

The prognostic significance of morphologic parameters was evaluated in 103 patients with renal cell carcinoma diagnosed during 1961–1974. Pathologic material was classified on pathologic stage, tumor size, cell arrangement, cell type and nuclear grade. Four nuclear grades (1–4) were defined so as of accelerating nuclear size, irregularity and nucleolar prominence. Nuclear grade was simpler than each of the opposite parameters in predicting development of distant metastasis following nephrectomy. Among 45 patients who presented in Stage I, tumors classified as nuclear grade 1 didn’t metastasize for a minimum of 5 years, whereas 50% of the upper grade tumors did so. [1]

Renal cell carcinoma

Immunohistochemical analysis of IDH2 R172 hotspot mutations in breast papillary neoplasms: applications in the diagnosis of tall cell carcinoma with reverse polarity

Tall cell carcinoma with reverse polarity may be a rare subtype of breast carcinoma with solid and papillary growth and nuclear features like those of the tall cell variant of papillary thyroid carcinoma. These tumors harbor recurrent IDH2 R172 hotspot mutations or TET2 mutations, co-occurring with mutations in PI3K pathway genes. Diagnosis of tall cell carcinomas with reverse polarity is challenging in sight of their rarity and therefore the range of medical diagnosis. We sought to work out the sensitivity and specificity of IDH2 R172 immunohistochemistry for the detection of IDH2 R172 hotspot mutations during this entity. [4]

Case Report of Prolonged Stable Disease with Modified Schedule Sunitinib in Metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma

Background: New targeted therapies have revolutionized the treatment landscape of metastatic renal cell carcinoma over the last decade. Sunitinib has demonstrated high activity in renal cell carcinoma (RCC), still complete remission isn’t a standard occurrence in patients. In patient achieving complete response, continuation of therapy beyond complete response is debatable.

Cytoreductive nephrectomy has shown to be beneficial in metastatic renal cell carcinoma in patients treated with interferon. However, its role isn’t established within the targeted therapy era. [5]
