Thermal energy storage technology is the method of storing thermal energy by cooling or heating a storage medium so that the stored energy can be used for cooling and heating applications as well as power generation at a later time. These devices are commonly used in manufacturing processes and construction. In such applications, half of the energy consumed is in the form of thermal energy, with demand varying during the day and from day to day. As a result, these systems will help balance energy demand and supply on a regular, weekly, and seasonal basis. They have the potential to lower peak demand, prices, energy usage, and CO2 emissions while increasing the overall performance of the thermal energy system. Furthermore, storing and converting variable renewable energy into thermal energy could further increase the share of renewables in the energy mix. They are becoming increasingly necessary for electricity storage in collection of concentrated solar power, where solar energy can be saved for electricity production when the sun is no longer shining. As an introductory chapter, this book provides a broad overview of various thermal energy storage materials and technology. The classifications used in scholarly literature are then applied to the text. This text was accompanied by applications as chapter two. The next chapter is solar thermal energy storage (chapter three). The architecture of thermal energy storage will be covered in the fourth chapter. The fifth chapter focuses on the latest techniques used in this area.
