Microwave Assisted Reactions for Synthesis of Bioactive Azaheterocycles

Azaheterocycles have gotten a lot of attention in recent years because of their common occurrence in many natural and synthetic products, as well as their wide range of biological activities. Simultaneously, greener and more environmentally sustainable synthetic approaches are urgently needed to meet the changing demands of the world. In this context, developing more efficient azaheterocycle synthetic protocols is a major challenge, and microwave irradiation is one of the most successful nonconventional alternatives to traditional medicinal chemistry methods. The advantages of microwave assisted reactions in the synthesis of bioactive 5- and 6-membered ring azaheterocycles are discussed in this book chapter (containing one to four nitrogen atoms). Representative considerations are discussed, including mechanistic aspects, discrepancies between traditional and microwave-assisted syntheses, and biological activity of the resulting products.
