
A Review on Brown Seaweed Fucoidan in Cancer: Implications in Metastasis and Drug Resistance
Brown seaweed and marine invertebrates contain fucoidans, which are sulphated polysaccharides. They have anti-cancer properties because they target several signalling channels and molecular processes in cancerous cells. The chemical structure diversity of fucoidans, as well as their similarities to other molecules such as glycosaminoglycan, are defined in this study, allowing them to participate in a variety of biological processes. This analysis also summarises their effect on the production of metastasis and drug resistance, which are the two most important barriers to cancer cure. Fucoidans have been shown to inhibit the processes of EMT, migration, invasion, and metastasis in certain cancer forms. Finally, this article explores how fucoidans have been studied in clinical trials to see whether they have a synergistic impact with other anti-cancer medications.
