The presence of bilateral twin renal arteries was discovered during routine dissection of a male corpse. The auxiliary renal artery sprang from the abdominal aorta immediately above the main renal artery on the right side. The auxiliary renal artery sprang from the abdominal aorta around 1 cm above the main renal artery on the left side.
Variations in renal vascular anatomy have been described in a number of studies. Renal trauma, renal transplantation, renal artery embolization, surgery for an abdominal aortic aneurysm, and conservative or radical renal surgery all benefit from understanding the variability of renal vascular anatomy.
