Determining Wheat Crop Acreage Based on Remote Sensing and GIS Technique in Jabalpur, India

Using satellite photos to map and classify a crop is a difficult operation that can reduce the complications of field visits. Sentinel-2, a recently launched satellite with thirteen spectral bands, a short revisit time, and determination at three different resolutions (10 m, 20 m, and 60 m), as well as free picture access, makes it an excellent candidate for vegetation mapping. The goal of this research is to categorise crop using single date Sentinel-2 photos in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, India. Unsupervised Classification was used to perform the classification. Sentinel-2’s Near Infrared, Red, Green, and Blue spectral bands were layered for classification in this study. The area of wheat crop corresponds to 83.07 percent, Gram/ Pulses 14.64 percent, and other crop 2.28 percent, according to the results. Overall classification accuracy and Kappa Statistics utilising Sentinel-2 imagery are 85.71 percent and 0.819 percent, respectively. As a result, this study discovered that Sentinel-2 had a lot of promise for remote sensing mapping of Jabalpur’s farm areas. The study showed that utilising multi-date vegetative growth stage Sentinel data and digital unsupervised classification, district-level wheat acreage could be reliably approximated.
