An Approach for Capacity Building: A Timeless Managerial Responsibility for Achieving Organization’s Success in Akwa Ibom State


Capacity building is a deliberate strategic approach used to address transition difficulties in organisations, and it is generally considered as a medium- and long-term plan for dealing with large changes in the organization’s environment. In order to keep up with the frequent changes caused by today’s complex and multidimensional business environment, this study described strategy as a timeless activity that management must engage in after continuous monitoring and evaluation of the operational environment. The study used a survey design. In Uyo, Nigeria, data was collected from fifty middle and senior management professionals of public interest organisations. The sample was chosen with care. The data was analysed using measures of central tendency such mean, standard deviation, and simple percentage. The findings show that if organisations are to prosper, they must have a long-term capacity-building strategy. As a result, it is recommended that proper monitoring and assessment be undertaken on a regular basis to validate the need for capacity building, allowing organisations to remain competitive and effective while not reacting to changes in a fire-brigade fashion. This is because complex organisations tend to deteriorate into chaos in the absence of efficient capacity-building programmes, putting their very existence in jeopardy.
