Molecular Identification of Bacteria Associated with Bacterial Vaginosis

BACKGROUND: Bacterial vaginosis affects many women and is related to several serious health conditions. The explanation for bacterial vaginosis remains poorly understood despite numerous studies supported cultures. Bacteria in microbial communities are often identified without cultivation by characterizing their ribosomal DNA (rDNA) sequences. [1]

A study of the bacteria associated with advancing periodontitis in man

Samples of apical plaque were taken by means of an anaerobic gas‐flushed syringe from 21 sites in eight patients, The samples were anaerobically dispersed, diluted and plated and incubated in an environment of 80% N2, 10% H2 and 10% CO2 for 7–21 days. All colonies on plates containing 20–50 isolates were picked, repeatedly restreaked, characterized and identified where possible by a probabilistic computer identification program. The sites were divided into four groups on the idea of clinical features. the importance of differences between bacterial populations within the groups decided by the Kruskal Wallis and Mann‐Whitney U tests, while the Spearman rank coefficient of correlation was wont to determine the rank correlation of clinical features of disease and micro‐bial species. [2]

Diversity of bacteria associated with the Caribbean coral Montastraea franksi

In this study we characterized the prokaryotic microbiota related to the reef-building coral Montastraea franksi during a culture-independent manner by sequencing 16S rDNAs. the bulk of the bacteria identified by this method were novel species and belonged to a good sort of microbial groups, with cyanobacteria and α-proteobacteria being the foremost abundant. In contrast, the bacteria cultured from an equivalent M. franksi samples were closely associated with previously described bacteria and consisted mostly of γ-proteobacteria. These results show that the microbial diversity related to corals are often greatly underestimated when relying exclusively on culture-based methods. [3]

Characterization of Mucosal Dysbiosis of Early Colonic Neoplasia

Aberrant crypt foci (ACF) are the earliest morphologically identifiable lesions within the colon which will be detected by high-definition chromoendoscopy with contrast dye spray. Although frequently related to synchronous adenomas, their role in colorectal tumor development, particularly within the proximal colon, remains not clear. The goal of this study was to guage the profile of colon-adherent bacteria related to proximal ACF and to research their relationship to the presence and subtype of synchronous polyps present throughout the colon. [4]

Types of Bacteria Associated with Diarrhoeal Cases among Children in Akure, Nigeria and Their Antibiogram Profile

In this study, the kinds of bacteria related to diarrhoeal cases among children in Akure, Nigeria and their antibiogram profile were investigated using standard techniques. The bacterial species isolated are; Escherichia coli, Enterobacter aerogenes, Klebsiella pnuemoniae, Shigella flexneri, Salmonella typhimurium, Vibrio cholerae, typhoid bacillus, Shigella sonnei, and Vibrio paraheamolyticus. Antibiogram profile of the isolates revealed Pefloxacin to be the foremost effective drug against four of the isolated bacterial species while septrin, streptomycin, augmentin and spafloxacin were less effective. Three sorts of multiple antibiotic resistance patterns were observed within the isolates. [5]
