Introduction: One of the most common causes of allergic rhinitis is the work environment. The majority of vendors in Dakar operate in areas close to heavily travelled highways, exposing them to higher levels of pollution. In this analysis, the prevalence of allergic rhinitis and its risk factors were calculated in these vendors. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among vendors in the HLM, Medina, and Petersen neighbourhoods of Dakar, Senegal, using a standardised questionnaire. Air pollution is a complex mixture of poisonous gases and particulates that has been described as the world’s most serious environmental problem today, causing 7-10 million deaths globally per year [1,2]. Trinidad is the Caribbean’s most industrialised island, with a strong energy and petrochemical economy. In addition, seasonal Sahara dust has an effect (PM2.5). The baseline levels of fine and respirable particulates (three PM size fractions), as well as trace metals in PM, are characterised in this report. During the … Continue reading “Characterisation of Air Pollution on Trinidad’s North-West Coast (San Fernando to Port-of-Spain)”

Exposure to pollutants like mobile participate matter and gas has been related to will increase in mortality and hospital admissions thanks to metabolism and upset. These effects are found in short studies, that relate day-after-day variations in pollution and health, and long-run studies, that have followed cohorts of exposed people over time. Effects are seen at terribly low levels of exposure, and it’s … Continue reading “News Update on Air Pollution Research: June – 2019”
